Occasionally (ok alot for some people), you will find a problem or experience a large amount of LAG. Just so you know, I hate lag alot. So, in order to rid myself of it and make the game playable I do certain adjustments to my ArcanePref.cfg (located in

"C:/Program Files/Ubi Soft/Shadowbane/Config/ArcanePref.cfg"). There are two ways to edit this file:

1) Manually edit the file using NOTEPAD or SIMPLETEXT and then just change the values in it and save. (Note: if once you have opened the file you are unable to edit values due to confusion then please realize you aren't too bright.)

2) Go into shadowbane and log in to the game with a character. Once in click on the main window (defaulted middle of right side of screen) and select "Settings" -> "Preferences."

Use either method and make the following adjustments:

    1) Turn off Names and Crests display so that those don't have to load for each character, reduces lag considerably.

    2) Reduce Most things (Texture Detail, Terrain Detail, Terrain Size, etc) to a value of 2 or lower. This decreases graphics quality so little you won't see a difference but relieves lag significantly.

    3) Turn off "USEMESHCACHE" by making it false in file or clicking "off" in preferences.

    4) Turn off Terrain LOD.

    5) Keep refinement range at 600 or lower.

    6) Turn off ALL shadows.

    7) Turn off dynamic lighting.

    8) Set particle effects to 30% or lower.   

Feel free to tweak anything else you want to but make sure you know what your doing and not just screwing up the game for yourself even more.

(Note: If you are still experiencing severe lag, please feel free to scream and bitch and moan all you want in the comfort of your home as there isn't much else you can do to help lag. The server itself can occasionally just be laggy and therefore nothing you do can fix it in the least.)
