SB Movement Tips

This was written by madsage and posted on SB forums. This was NOT written by me.
However I edited it and posted it on my website for other easy accessibility.

The biggest problem new players have when they try this game is the movement system. The system is Point and Click like many 3rd person RPG games out there, not keyboard movement like first person shooters and DAOC and EQ.

Some people pick it up quickly, while others have a hard time.. it all really depends on your gaming background.

Here are some basic tips to get you started:

1) Make sure you have path finding set to on. You do this by going in game and typing "/path on" in the chatbox. This allows your character to avoid obstacles and automatically travel to where you click. NOTE: Later, as you get better, you might want to turn it of for PvP and better control.

2) Use the local map for 90 % of your movement. Only when you need to make small steps do you ever need to worry about clicking the ground (IE in buildings). The mini-map is a compass! Up on the map is North, Down is south, etc.

3) My suggestion is not to lock the camera. This might seem counter-intuitive, but once you get used to using the local map for movement, you will find that while your avatar is off on his/her happy run to the location you clicked, you can pan the camera around, zoom in and out.. and view the details around you.

4) Remember its not a twitched based game, you don’t need to strafe, you don’t need to be facing your target to attack. You can attack a target behind you, and your avatar will auto turn around. Just get in the general vicinity and use your attack.

5) If you are a melee based class. Turn on combat close. If you are a mage of ranged attacker don’t. Combat close will auto-run your avatar to the target you attack.

6) When you enter buildings, use the edge of the screens to move the camera to a more over the head shot. The roofs will peel away and you will find it much easier to move around.

7) Make good use of your mouse wheel for zooming in and out. Do NOT insist on staying zoomed in all the time.

You will find, that once you get used to the movement.. You will see that it takes a lot less effort on your part to control your avatar then keyboard based. You will be able to set out running to a specific spot, and get up and walk away from your pc, and when you get back your avatar will be right where you sent him.
